Official EPFO Portal Steps & Registration Process 2025-26
IMPORTANT: The deadline for linking your bank account with Aadhaar and activating your UAN has been extended to February 15, 2025.
What is UAN (Universal Account Number)?
The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a 12-digit unique identifier assigned by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. The UAN remains constant throughout an employee’s career, regardless of job changes. When an employee switches jobs, the EPFO assigns a new member ID linked to the same UAN, facilitating seamless transfers and withdrawals.
How to Activate UAN Online on EPFO Portal?
Activating your UAN is essential for availing online services of EPFO. Follow these step-by-step instructions:
Step 1: Visit the official EPFO Member Portal at unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in.
Step 2: Click on the 'Activate UAN' option available under the 'Important Links' tab on the dashboard.
Step 3: Provide your UAN, Aadhaar number, name, date of birth, mobile number, and captcha code.
Step 4: Click on 'Get Authorisation PIN'. An OTP will be sent to the mobile number registered with EPFO.
Step 5: Enter the four-digit OTP and click 'Validate OTP and Activate UAN'.
Step 6: Upon successful validation, your UAN will be activated, and a password will be sent to your registered mobile number.
Once activated, the UAN provides a gateway to manage provident fund accounts effortlessly. Key features include:
Unified Management: All PF accounts across multiple employers are consolidated under a single UAN.
E-Services Access: View and download EPF passbooks and UAN cards anytime.
Online Claims: Apply for full or partial PF withdrawals and track claim status in real time.
KYC Updates: Update Aadhaar, PAN, and bank details directly on the portal.
Seamless Transfers: Transfer PF balances between jobs without physical paperwork.
Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme Deadline
The Ministry of Labour & Employment has directed the EPFO to ensure the UAN of employees is active to avail the benefits of the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme. Members must activate their UAN and link their bank accounts with Aadhaar before February 15, 2025. Failing to do so may result in delays in EPF withdrawals and ELI Scheme benefits.
Security Practices for EPF Members
Protecting your account is crucial for maintaining the security of your retirement savings.
Personal Details: EPFO never asks for personal details like Aadhaar, PAN, or bank details over the phone.
Payment Requests: EPFO never calls any member to deposit any amount in any bank.
Password Management: Employees must immediately change the system-generated password after the first login.
